Mission

To empower First Nation and Inuit youth by providing a credible, safe and culturally based program that promotes a holistic healthy lifestyle.


Vision

To empower healthy families and community spirit by nurturing cultural pride, and enhancing leadership qualities, to achieve drug and alcohol free lifestyles. Ideally, such a lifestyle will reflect pride of self, pride of heritage and a commitment to meet the needs of their families, friends, communities and the larger society.


Purpose

The fundamental purpose of Leading Thunderbird Lodge is to assist Youth who have addiction and substance abuse problems. As all of the youth will present with complex needs we will assist youth to develop the tools and skills to practice a healthy lifestyle. The programming at Leading Thunderbird Lodge is “Holistic” and based on the Medicine Wheel Model; the four elements of ‘balance’ are addressed: mental, social, physical and spiritual.


Specific Goals

To work with youth to:

  1. Assist them in identifying the causes of their pattern of substance abuse and the immediate triggers to that abuse.
  2. Self-determine the disadvantages of alcohol and drug use.
  3. Improve their personal and social coping skills in order to overcome their problems with addictions.
  4. Exchange self-destructive and antisocial thinking styles and behavior with positive and pro-social thinking.
